Chimney renovation: our expertise

The chimney stack is very exposed: rain, frost and wind attack the bricks, the joints and the junction with the roof. A damaged chimney is a common cause of leaks in the attic.

Elite Building Group works on the outside of chimneys: repointing, replacing bricks, raising or partly dismantling the stack, fitting a cap and redoing flashings.

We do not sweep chimneys or line flues; for that, contact a chimney sweep or heating engineer. We take care of the masonry and waterproofing around the chimney.

What we do

Inspection

Condition of the bricks, joints, coping and junctions.

Repointing

Bricks

Replacing damaged bricks.

Coping and cap

Rebuilding the top of the stack and fitting a cap.

Flashings

Watertight junction between the chimney and the roof covering.

Dismantling

Removing an unused stack and closing the roof.

Why it matters

Energy

Removing an unused chimney or properly sealing the junction limits cold draughts.

Weatherproofing

The chimney is a classic weak point of a roof: flashings and joints in good condition stop leaks.

Appearance

A straight, clean, well-pointed stack enhances the roof.

Frequently asked questions

My chimney is causing stains in the attic – what should I do?

Common causes are worn joints, a faulty flashing or a missing chimney cap. An inspection finds the source.

Do you sweep chimneys?

No. We carry out masonry and waterproofing work; sweeping and flue lining are for a chimney sweep or heating engineer.

Can an unused chimney be removed?

Yes, the stack can be taken down and the roof neatly closed. Check beforehand that no appliance is connected to it.

What is a chimney cap for?

It limits rain and debris getting into the flue.

Do you work on chimneys during a roof renovation?

Yes, it is the right time to restore the chimney and its junctions.
