Repointing & façade cleaning: our expertise

Brick façades are very common in Belgium. Over time, joints recede, crumble or crack, and the façade gets dirty. Water can then get into the masonry more easily.

Repointing means removing damaged joints to a certain depth and then applying new ones. Combined with suitable cleaning, it gives the façade a crisp look while protecting it.

We choose the cleaning method and pointing mortar according to the brick and the existing look, for a result in keeping with the house and the neighbourhood.

Materials and techniques

  • Pointing mortars: Colour and composition suited to the brick.
  • Low- or high-pressure cleaning: Depending on how resistant the surface is.
  • Cleaning products: Suited to moss and soiling.
  • Water repellents: To limit water absorption, if the surface allows.

Materials are chosen case by case, after the visit, depending on the surface and your project.

Why it matters

Energy

A dry wall insulates better than a damp one: joints in good condition limit damp in the masonry.

Weatherproofing

New joints keep out the rainwater that would otherwise seep into the façade.

Appearance

A clean façade with even joints regains all the charm of the brick.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my joints need redoing?

Recessed, crumbling, cracked or missing joints and damp on interior walls are common signs.

Can I choose the joint colour?

Yes. We can match the existing colour or suggest another depending on the effect you want.

Does cleaning damage the brick?

Too aggressive a method can damage it. That is why we adapt the technique and pressure to the surface.

Is scaffolding needed?

Usually yes, to work safely and evenly over the full height.

Can the façade be water-proofed afterwards?

It is possible depending on the surface; we discuss it with you during the visit.
